Run Beneficiary:
Helping to Support Academic & Fitness Needs of WCSD
100% of the funds generated through registration and through sponsorship donations will directly benefit the children in the Washoe County School District via the Education Collaborative of Washoe County. In the past three years, we raised more than $529,000 and helped to fund two programs. These programs benefit areas specifically identified by the Washoe County School District as in need of additional funding. These two programs are the
KIDS IN MOTION (KIM) PROGRAM and the PASSPORT PROGRAM .
The first Kids in Motion Program focuses on the needs of elementary school children. Since there is no formal physical education in the elementary schools, budgets for fitness items are tight. Kids in Motion provides money to participating schools in the form of mini grants to help schools purchase fitness equipment (i.e. basketballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, etc.), fund field days, support running teams, or provide formal physical education instruction. In the previous three years, the Run for Education has given over 90 mini grants worth more than $221,800.00 in total.
“Not only have these supplies helped our kids become more fit, all of the supplies
help our first field day here at Jesse Hall be a huge success.”
- Kristin Clark, teacher
In 2008 those elementary schools who have 20 or more kids participate in the Run for Education will receive a KIM grant of at least $500 for their school.
The second initiative, the Passport Program, assists those K-12 students who need additional educational assistance to help them meet educational goals (summer school, inter session classes, tutoring, etc.) but need financial assistance to do so. In the past three years, the Run for Education has benefited more than 2,000 students through this program. This fabulous program meets an academic funding need that was specifically identified by the Washoe County School District and we are proud to have helped the increase the educational successes of so many at-risk students.
Barbara Creveling, WCSD’s Coordinator, Supplemental Credit/Summer/Night School, says,
“There are tons of needy kids out there and having these funds available made a huge difference in the academic success of WCSD students. Our thanks to you and the Run for Education for making it happen!”
This year let’s help even more kids meet their scholastic and academic goals!
The Education Collaborative will oversee both programs and the distribution of all funds from the event. These are great programs that will truly make a difference in the educational experience
of our children.
Together we are helping Washoe County School District students build a healthier and brighter future!
